A lot of times, Banned Books tend to fall into the YA category, but what about MG? Are they “too tame” to be censored—or just overlooked?

Actually, one of the most challenge books of all time falls into the MG category.
Any guesses?
Well—ok, if you insist I reveal it:

The Giver by Lois Lowry falls on the 100 most frequently challenge books list and it’s one I featured last year.

Banned Books Awareness goes into some depth about why this book has been challenged so much. It’s such a classic in MG lit, and I think it holds vital themes about humanity that kids of the MG age need to understand. This book puts it out there, and I can only hope that someday I can teach it in the classroom.

Book Talk: What do you think–should The Giver be banned in the MG classroom, or is it a must read?
